From May 9 to 12, as the 22nd "World Day to Combat Desertification" approaches, instructor Yu Bingqin majored in landscape architecture from School of Agriculture and Biology led postgraduates from School of Agriculture and Biology to take part in the "Inner Mongolia Alxa Desertification Combat and Ecological Remediation Activity" held by Brother (China) Group and tree planting activity together with staff from Brother (China) Group, teachers and students from Shaanxi Normal University, media friends and local farmers and herdsmen to support improvement work of local environment.

In May 2017, staff of Brother (China) Group and OISCA paid the second visit to Alxa Desert to plant trees. This year, instructor Yu Bingqin headed her students to participate in "Inner Mongolia Alxa Desertification Combat and Ecological Remediation Activity". Under the guidance of Doctor Fu Jianzhi, volunteers planted more than 5000 shrubs in three days. The postgraduate Jiang Yongli believed that in spite of severe desertification in Alxa, such warm-hearted people as Doctor Fu Jianzhi greatly encouraged him and he hoped to make his own contributions to protect the homeland by his efforts.

During the activity, teachers and students from School of Agriculture and Biology visited OISCA Alxa Desert Ecological Research and Training Center, gained systematic knowledge on the scientific and experimental situations in improving desertification in Alxa and also learned the symbiosis idea of desert prevention and governance at present. According to information, this is the third time for School of Agriculture and Biology to take part in Alxa sand prevention activities held by Brother (China) Group and through firsthand experience of the desertification degree, teachers and students established more intuitive feeling and thus deepened their recognition on desertification. It is also expected by School of Agriculture and Biology to bring the "desertification countering" and "environmental protection concept" to the campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, have such deeply learned by students and make more people take part in environmental protection activities.
