3MT provides research students with the opportunity to develop their academic, presentation, and research communication skills by explaining their research to an intelligent but non-specialist audience. The competition requires participants to present their doctoral thesis research to an audience without relevant background knowledge in three minutes.

 

Eligibility: Doctoral students from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and has already start their doctoral thesis work before participating in the competition.

Schedule:

• Before June 30, 2021, send the registration email (U21 competition + Faculty + name + student ID + mobile phone number) and the first draft of the three-minute speech (in word format) to lilishen@sjtu.edu.cn.

• Early July 2021, preliminary competition;

The on-campus preliminary competition will be conducted in the form of on-site speech, which will be evaluated by an expert group. The requirements for on-site speech are consistent with the requirements for the formal video submission. For details, please refer to the following "Video Requirements". In the preliminary round, only one student will be selected to represent the SJTU and participate in the later formal competition.

• Submit video to U21 by 16 September 2021;

• Public voting from 20 September to 4 October 2021;

• October 2021, results announced from U21;

 

Video Requirements:

• Speech time must limited in 3 minutes; More than three minutes will be considered disqualified.

• A single static slide is allowed (no slide switches, no animations or any dynamic effects). Slides can be continuously visible;  Or cut in segments, but the total time should not exceed one minute.

• Video can be recorded live at the 3-minute or recorded at a specific location of your choice. But the lens must be shot in a static position, can be enlarged and reduced.

• Three minutes of audio must be recorded continuously without editing or interruption.

• No additional items (e.g., costumes, Musical Instruments, lab equipment, animation backgrounds, etc.).

• The speech should be delivered in the form of everyday spoken language. Verse, rap, or singing are not allowed.

• Timing counted when the speaker begins speaking with any actions or words.

• No other electronic media materials are allowed in the video.

• The decision of the judging panel will be final.
